This website privacy policy is for information only, and does not create obligations, implied or otherwise, for visitors to the website (“Website Users”).

Data Administration

The Data Administrator of personal data collected via GeneralFusion.com is General Fusion Inc. (hereafter referred to as the “Administrator”), with a business address of: 320 – 3600 Lysander Lane, Richmond, British Columbia, Canada V7B 1C3.

General Fusion uses a third party data processor called MailChimp to process data collected for the newsletter. MailChimp is a marketing automation service provided by the Rocket Science Group, LLC. General Fusion also uses Google Analytics to understand how Website Users make use of the website. Google Analytics is provided by Google, LLC.

Communications relating to the collection of data or the General Fusion newsletter should be sent by email to media@generalfusion.com.

Collecting of Non-identifying data

As is common with many websites, non-identifying data which does not allow for individual Website Users to be identified, is collected by General Fusion in order to better understand how Website Users make use of the site. This data is of the sort that is usually made available by browsers, such as which browser is being used, or date and timestamps showing when the Website Users accessed the website.  This data is collected using cookies.

Collection of Identifying Data

General Fusion Inc. collects data that can be used to personally identify Website Users in only one instance; when a user signs-up for the General Fusion newsletter. The collected data is limited to a name, email address, company name and IP address, which allows for any newsletters to be addressed and sent via electronic mail accordingly.

The use of this data is limited to delivery of the General Fusion email newsletter. The newsletter consists of a regular quarterly publication, as well as a series of four emails introducing readers to the history of fusion development. These introductory emails are sent over a twelve week period from the date of subscription. Emails may also be sent on an ad-hoc basis notifying newsletter subscribers about breaking news or events in the world of fusion.

Collected data will be treated with utmost care by the Administrator to protect the interests of Website Users whom the data relates to, and processed in accordance with the law; that is, it will be collected and used only for the purposes expressly noted in this policy.

Web Beacons

We use web beacons in our emails. When we send emails to Members, we may track behavior such as who opened the emails and who clicked the links. This allows us to measure the performance of our email campaigns and to improve what articles and content we feature. To do this, we include single pixel gifs, also called web beacons, in emails we send. Web beacons allow us to collect information about when you open the email, your IP address, your browser or email client type, and other similar details.

 Disclosure of Identifying Data

The Administrator may disclose personally-identifying data only to its employees or contractors directly  involved with processing of the data in accordance with this policy, providing that the data needs to be known by the employee/contractor so that they may process it in accordance with the law, and provided that the employee/contractor has agreed to be bound by the particulars of this Privacy Policy and laws regarding protection of the data.

Revoking Right to Process Data

Personally-identifying information as well as consent is required by General Fusion Inc. in order to provide the newsletter service. However, the rights to personal data remain with the Website Users at all times. Website Users retain the right to control, access, amend or delete the contents of own personal data in the Administrator’s database.

Consent to send newsletters or other marketing materials is given during the sign-up process, however such consent may be revoked or objected to at any time by Website Users. In order to do so, the Website Users may contact the Administrator by sending an appropriate message in writing or via electronic mail to media@generalfusion.com, or utilize the provided links at the bottom of any newsletter-related electronic correspondence from General Fusion to remove oneself from the database.

Once General Fusion Inc. has been notified of a request to update or remove the Website User’s data, General Fusion will conduct the appropriate action to either update the Website User’s data or completely remove it from General Fusion’s collected data. In the case of removal from the database, the Website User will cease to receive the General Fusion email newsletter.

Final provisions

Both GeneralFusion.com and any marketing/newsletter materials sent by General Fusion Inc. may contain external links to other websites. Website Users are encouraged to become familiar with the privacy policies in effect on these websites; this privacy policy applies exclusively to GeneralFusion.com and the General Fusion newsletter, and is not transferable to external websites.

The Administrator takes advantage of technical and organizational means which ensure protection of the processed personal data appropriate to the threats and categories of protected data. This includes securing against disclosure to unauthorized persons, take-over by an unauthorized person, processing in violation of currently applicable regulations, as well as change, loss, damage or destruction.
