I am from Ontario and completed my undergraduate degree in chemical physics and my master’s and Ph.D. in nuclear physics, all at the University of Guelph. My Ph.D. thesis was on developing a neutron spectrometer to detect neutron emission following beta decay, and this was perfect for the work we are doing at General Fusion. I applied for our neutron specialist role as I wanted to do something more applied than academic research. I defended my thesis and moved to Vancouver one month later!

What I like most about working at General Fusion is all the collaborations, both internal and external, which create so many learning moments. A great example of our internal collaboration is working with our talented co-op students, who play a big role! An example of our external collaborations is the one we have with TRIUMF. In 2024, we were awarded a four-year grant from Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) to develop a state-of-the-art neutron spectrometer for our LM26 fusion demonstration machine.

One of my hobbies is that I am a “professional” disc golfer and participate at the highest level in local leagues and tournaments and will compete at the Canadian national championships.
