The Economist’s science and technology editor, Geoffrey Carr, interviews Founder and Chief Science Officer Dr. Michel Laberge on General Fusion’s unique Magnetized Target Fusion approach.
The editor discusses the various approaches to fusion energy and says, “it would take only one of these to work for the field to be transformed from chimera to reality” and transform the energy landscape.
General Fusion is best positioned to deliver fusion at a commercial scale because the company’s design does not need superconducting magnets or expensive lasers to create or sustain the fusion process. This helps sidestep the traditional barriers to commercializing fusion energy, making MTF scalable and deployable.
